She is Innocence
(For my niece Tasha)

She is innocence
in a young package,
wrapped in translucence
and inherited beauty.
A pretty girl
with a pretty smile,
and a heart filled
with wonder and curiosity,
compassion and love.
Visions of saving the world
haunt her teenage mind,
darkness beaten back
by the cheerful optimism of youth.
But one day life and experience
will roar in and
attempt to slay her.
If only she could defeat her nemesis,
what a wonderful world
she would create.
