Why Do I Love You?
In Midnight Dreams
Copyright 2004 by Margaret Marr
The moon hangs low
On a cloudy night
Crushing my fragile heart
Happiness co-mingles
With a touch of sadness
Leaving me confused
Lost yesterdays are gone
And tomorrow may never be
Only the present remains
But you're not here
And I'm not there
Where is our common time?
Would it be in midnight dreams
Along the sacred shores
Of our timeless love?
Long Ago

Sometimes, when the hour
grows late and the night
covers me in despair,
I think of you
and the hurt rises
as if some great beast awakes
from its winter slumber
and stirs in my soul.
Tears well to the surface
a cascade of scalding memories
and I'm left breathless
from the anguish
of a long-ago broken heart
Moonlight in a Teacup
September 19, 2004 by Margaret Marr
Moonlight in a teacup,
sunshine in a bowl,
echoing a wild wind's
mournful howl,
bending time to worn-out knees.
A moment of lucidity
in the mud of life
glaring defiantly with one eye.
Starlight in a spoon,
sewn with dark thread
stitching quiet solitude,
until the wind of existence
no longer blows
